SHOPPERS in a north Durham supermarket could have been forgiven for wondering if they had drifted into a 1970s punk rock den by mistake yesterday.
For not only were half the staff at Asda, in Stanley, wearing lurid orange and blue T-shirts, but two of the men decided to have their hair dyed in the same colours as the shop's livery.
David Lisgo, a 28-year-old baker and Carlton Wilson, 26, who works on the delicatessen counter, agreed to dye their hair in the shop to raise money for testicular cancer awareness.
"The only trouble is that I've got to show this to Michelle, my girlfriend, now," said David.
"She knows I'm doing it and was happy because it was for charity. But seeing it might just change her mind.
"It was all a bit of fun but for a very good cause.
"I'm planning to keep my hair like this for a couple of weeks just to get all the reaction from my family and friends."
The store's staff also sold badges on behalf of the Everyman male cancer awareness campaign. Hairdresser Louise Metcalf dyed the workers' hair for free on the day.
