COMEDY actress Su Pollard helped launch a new season of shows at a North-East theatre yesterday - and got a surprise into the bargain.
The former Hi-De-Hi stars inAbigail's Party, a black comedy, at Darlington Civic Theatre.
Last night was the opening night of the four-week repertory season, which also includes Ira Levin's Deathtrap, Alan Ayckbourn's Round and Round The Garden, which stars Vicki Michelle, of 'Allo 'Allo fame, and Spring and Port Wine
Abigail's Party runs until this Saturday, June 17.
Audiences are being encouraged to mix with cast members in the bar after the shows and the Civic's courtyard area has been given a facelift by artist Katie Bird.
But a mystery patch of a mural remained unseen by anyone other than the artist until after last night's performance.
Theatre spokeswoman Chris McIntyre said: "We kept one section behind the curtain until after the performance for a surprise unveiling by Su Pollard. The surprise was it was of Su herself."
Ticket prices are £7.50, £10.50 and £12.50, but there is also a VIP special offer, allowing all four plays to be seen for £35, which includes a complimentary drink and a free programme.
