A NEWCASTLE pharmacist, who was struck off four years ago after leaving unqualified staff to dispense drugs while he holidayed in New Zealand, lost a second bid to be restored to the register last night.
Wai Man Yong, 51, of Corby Hall Drive, Ashbrooke Crescent, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, made his first restoration application to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in March, 1998,
He was then advised that he might have a better chance of being allowed to practise again if he returned before the Statutory Committee in another 12 months.
But Geoffrey Hudson, solicitor to the society, said Mr Yong scuppered his own chances by committing further offences.
His pharmacy, Saxon Chemists, of Heaton Road, Heaton, Newcastle, was still being operated by a locum while Mr Yong was off the register.
On December 23, 1998, a society inspector called in while the locum was an a lunch break. Mr Yong then proceeded to dispense 11 items on several separate prescriptions.
Giving the committee's decision, chairman Lord Fraser said: "In the new allegations, not only did Mr Yong dispense drugs when he was not entitled to do so, but disturbingly, a number of serious mistakes were made."
