PUPILS from West Redcar School have launched the Foxrush sculptural orienteering trail, a 2.3km path suggested by Cleveland Orienteering Club.
The trail runs through Foxrush Community Wood, opposite the school, in Kirkleatham Lane, Redcar.
The pupils came up with ideas for the trail, reflecting the Iron Age settlement history of the site.
Saltburn artists Glenn Humphrey and Tracey Potter held workshops at the school, and the youngsters helped them work on oak signposts for the route.
Ten of the markers display abstract carvings, covering past and present images of the landscape.
Kevin Serginson, countryside management officer for Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said: "The children have developed wonderful carvings. They will be the first of hundreds of children who can enjoy the great outdoors."
The project, funded by the Countryside Agency, cost £9,500
