A NORTH-EAST headteacher has been suspended after being charged with fraud.
George Bowery, 46, headteacher of Kingsmeadow Comprehensive School, Dunston, near Gateshead, was arrested following allegations of fraud and deception.
He appeared before the town's magistrates yesterday charged with making a false instrument, passing a false instrument and two counts of deception. He was bailed to appear before the court again on July 12.
School caretaker Gary Cleary has also been suspended in relation to the incident. He was questioned by detectives and released on police bail, pending further inquiries, until July 12.
Brian Edwards, Gateshead Borough Council's director of education, confirmed the suspensions. He said: "We believe these investigation are not related to their duties within the school.
