BUNGEE jumping comes of age in the North-East this weekend with the region's first ever Scad jump.
Described as a bungee jump without the elastic, the Scad (Suspended Catch Air Device) is a net that catches the jumper after a 150ft fall.
In aid of the National Kidney Research Fund, Newcastle Racecourse at Gosforth Park will host the region's first Scad jump on Sunday, June 18.
The fund is looking for volunteers to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship before taking the plunge.
The free fall is completely without attachments, but to ensure a safe landing position in the net, the diver wears a controlled free-fall harness.
A Scad device gently breaks the diver's fall to the extent that they feel no impact when they hit the net.
To register for the stunt, contact the Scad hotline on (01642) 491411.
