THE Government has thanked thousands of motorists who suffered rush-hour delays due to a traffic census.
The six-week survey, which has just finished, was held at points across Tyneside to analyse traffic patterns in a bid to cut congestion.
About 5,000 motorists were stopped and asked questions about their journeys and their use of their vehicle.
Some irate drivers complained about the delays to Metro FM's Tony Horne in the Morning breakfast show.
The station's helicopter eye in the sky "Marky" Mark Robinson broadcast census locations and routes to avoid them, despite requests from the Government Office North-East not to.
