AN aspiring physical education teacher who sued a doctor after his career was cut short because of appendicitis has settled out of court.
University student Alfred Hutchinson claims his life was wrecked after GP Dr Julia Lee failed to give advice to his mother despite her pleas for help.
The 28-year-old, from Plains Farms, Sunderland, claims that when he was taken to hospital, surgeons told him he was just two hours from death.
Newcastle County Court heard Mr Hutchinson's appendix was badly ruptured and had gone septic and gangrenous. He claimed medical negligence after his trauma left him psychologically damaged and his prolonged recovery cut short his promising future.
The case for damages was settled out of court and the amount has not been disclosed.
The family did not wish to speak after the hearing.
