A PLAQUE was unveiled at the family home of the late Cardinal Basil Hume, in Newcastle, yesterday, to commemorate the former Catholic leader's life.
The home in Ellison Terrace is now part of the University of Northumbria where it is used to house staff.
The plaque was unveiled by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Peter Thomson, who believes the plaque recognises Cardinal Hume's dedication to his home city.
He said: "Although Cardinal Hume rose to such eminence, he remained firmly rooted in the culture of the North-East.
