STUDENTS at Darlington's Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College are to host a sports festival.
On July 6, A-level physical education students will host the Top Sport Festival at the Eastbourne Sports Complex, in Hundens Lane, Darlington.
The event is for year six children from Eastbourne School's main pyramid schools and the aim is to give the ten and 11-year-olds a chance to try different sports.
The 25 sixth form students are organising the festival as part of their A-level PE studies, and have volunteered to coach youngsters.
To help them plan and stage the event, the students attended a youth sport training day at Durham University.
Julia Atkinson, head of sports studies at the college, said: "The students have taken ownership and have appointed three managers, Laura Gregory, Alan Evans and Martyn Lee, who assign tasks and incorporate the help of others to make the day successful."
It is expected that about 160 pupils will take part in the festival, which will be opened by Darlington Football Club chairman George Reynolds.
