FRIENDS of the Earth has warned a North-East MP that the Government will not meet its target of reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
In a recently-published draft Climate Change Programme, the Government said it wanted to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20 per cent, but the pressure group has revealed that it has delivered a cut of 15 per cent only.
Dr Ashok Kumar, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, signed a House of Commons statement agreeing with the 20 per cent target and the lobby group has told the MP of the Government's failure.
Friends of the Earth believes the recent floods and high rainfalls experienced in the North-East may be connected to increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide, in the atmosphere
