At the recent Durham County Schools' Track and Field Championships, held at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow, four members of the Quakers RC earned selection for County representation.
Barry Stephenson of Darlington's Queen Elizabeth VI Form College, who was competing in the Senior Boys 3,000 metres, crossed the line in first place recording a new club record time.
Gemma Bramley of Hummersknott School threw of 30.11 metres to win the Intermediate Girls Discus event.
Hurworth School's David Thurlow won the Intermediate Boys Triple Jump event with a distance of 12.48 metres which was a new personal best and a new club record.
In finishing in first place Julia Off of Hummersknott School also set a new pb and cr with a time of 5.07.1seconds in the Junior Girls 1,500 metres.
Of the other members competing Stacey Young (Carmel) finished 5th in the Junior Girls 200 metres with a time of 32.0. Claire Realey (Hurworth) was 4th in the Intermediate Girls, 100 metres with 14.8secs, and Stephanie Bramley (Hummersknott) threw a, distance of 19.47 metres in the Junior Girls Javelin to finish in 6th place.
The Inter Counties Match will take place at Clairville Stadium on Saturday June 17 where teams from Northumberland, Cleveland, Cumbria and Durham will be competing.
The third meeting of the North Eastern Athletics League the following day, also held at Monkton Stadium, saw more evidence of the Junior sections continued improvement with even more personal bests being achieved and more club records being bettered.
Results: Under 13 Boys Simon Farmer 100m (heat one) 3rd 14.9, 800m (heat one) 3rd 2.33.2 (pb & cr), Long Jump 1st 4.46 metres, Matthew Sutton 100m (heat two) 1st 15.1, Long Jump 2nd 4.25 .
U-13 Girls Helen Scott Long jump 3rd 3.35 metres.
U-15 Boys Andrew Sutton 100m (heat one) 5th 15.0, Long Jump 7th 4.10, Lewis Moses 800m (heat one) 7th 2.29.4 (pb), Long Jump 6th 4.30, Alan Carter 800m (heat two) 2.32.7 (pb), 400m 6th 72.0. Paul McLelland 400m 1st 57.2.
U-17 Girls Gemma Bramley Discus 1st 30.32 (pb & cr), Laura Scott Discus 5th 20.03.
The next meeting of the North Eastern Athletics League will be at Gateshead International Stadium on June 21 at 7.00pm.
On the, fells, Carl Bedford and Gemma Bramley were both victors in their categories in the junior events at the Clay Bank West fell race. Carl just managed to secure victory by the narrowest of margins winning in a time of 15:15 which was just one second ahead of the second placed finisher. Gemma finished fifth overall to win the junior girls event in a time of 22:21.
The seniors event saw Ken Maynard have an excellent run to finish third in 31:23 with brother Ray finishing in 15th place with 34:00.

The Hummersknott School Fun Run saw the welcome return from injury of Alasdair Tatharn who managed a victory by the narrow margin of seven seconds after going 'off course' inside the last mile. Alasdair's winning time was 38: 00 while second was Danny Orton in 38:07 and in third place was Neil Robinson, who won the first Hummersknott Boy trophy, with 38:10. Fourth was Wayne Bramley in 38:38 and in fifth place was Carl Bedford in 39:21. Julia Orr, accompanied by father Nigel, took the
first Hummersknott Girl trophy finishing 17th overall and second female with 43:46

The two-mile fun run saw the junior Quakers take the honours. Danny Small was the first across the line in 13:10 with club mate Marc Smith second with 15:13. In fourth place was Abigail Wilson who took home the first girl prize with a time of 16:01. The inaugural 11 km Castle Eden Walkway Trail Race and 3.5km Fun Run saw 128 athletes take part helping to raise funds for the Butterwick Hospice. Barry Stephenson led from start to finish to record another win in 38:09 while Paul Best of Shildon was second in a time of 39:02. Gary Grounds was third in 40:58 and Marie Stansmore of Middlesbrough & Cleveland won the ladies race in 44:55 finishing sixteenth overall.
Second was Karen Shaw of Shildon in 47:35 with the Quakers' Sally Rouse third in 48:59.
