RAM raiders are believed to have fastened a 20ft piece of timber to a vehicle before smashing it through the doors of a travel agents' shop.
The attack took place in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, when the vehicle crashed through the back of Travelworld, in Beveridge Way.
Once they were inside, the thieves took a Chubb safe, containing English and Spanish currency.
The shop was closed up at 5.45pm on Wednesday and the attack is believed to have happened between midnight and 3.30am yesterday.
