A CLEVELAND MP became a different kind of public servant when he took up a challenge from the Women's Royal Voluntary Service.
Dr Ashok Kumar made good his word to do two hours' voluntary work at a luncheon club for the elderly run by the WRVS in Guisborough.
The MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland served meals, cleared tables and washed up at the Anchor House club in Kemplah Mews.
He was with WRVS project leader, Gerda Ashton, meals with care manager, Maria Rudd, and Helen Mellor, the WRVS's volunteering and communications manager.
The project was part of the Volunteer Week national initiative highlighting the work of organisations such as the WRVS
