ANTI-incineration campaigners took their protest to the steps of Durham's County Hall yesterday.
The Campaign Against Incineration of Refuse was set up by residents of the Byker area of Newcastle to fight plans to double the capacity of the waste burner near their homes.
Members waving banners lobbied the one-day conference, Energy From Wastes - The Burning Issues, organised by the Northern Energy Initiative at the county council's headquarters.
Val Barton, of the campaign, said: "It's all propaganda. They are trying to persuade councils like ours to go for incineration. All the speakers are in favour of incineration.
"We wanted to be here to make sure people realise there is another side to the debate."
