RESIDENTS of a home for the elderly joined family and friends of a diamond wedding couple for their anniversary celebrations yesterday.
Betty Neat, 80, who lives at Neville House, in Darlington, was treated to a special party ,where she was joined by husband Frank, 83, who lives in Murrayfield Way.
They met when Betty was 19, and her sister originally dated her husband to be.
Fate took a hand when Frank arrived to find the sister of his choice not at home. So Betty's mother suggested he take her out instead.
They married at St Andrew's Church, Haughton, 60 years ago and lived together in Barmpton Lane.
Although Frank doesn't live with his wife, he visits every day and even made the cake for yesterday's anniversary celebrations
