THE social services department of Middlesbrough Borough Council has won an Investors in People award.
Commitment to training and development of its 1,300 staff, who work in 40 locations, helped the department reach the national standard.
Corporate director of social services, Dr Glenys Jones, said: "More than a year's hard work has gone into achieving Investors in People status.
"Everyone in the service has played a part and the good thing is that all our service users will benefit from the process.
"It has made us look closely at how we work and how we can improve our services for everyone in Middlesbrough.
"Training and developing people's skills is essential in every area of local government, but it's particularly important in social services where most staff work directly in the community, and use their skills to provide personal support and advice."
