ENGLAND international and Newcastle United star Kieron Dyer spent a night in hospital at the weekend after an incident in a nightclub.
Dyer, 21, who joined the Magpies last year from Ipswich Town for £6m, is thought to have been glassed in the face.
Police were not called to the incident in Ipswich but a spokeswoman for Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust said yesterday that the player was detained and treated for his injuries.
"He was admitted to the hospital at 2am on Saturday, where he had spent the rest of the night and most of the following day. He was allowed home at about 7.30pm on Saturday after being examined by a doctor."
Dyer, who was omitted from Kevin Keegan's England's Euro 2000 squad, now faces a showdown with Newcastle United manager Bobby Robson about his social life.
Several Sunday newspapers carried articles containing allegations about Dyer's private life at the weekend.
A Newcastle United spokesman said today: "As far as the club is concerned the manager will be having a word with Kieron Dyer, but it will be in private and when he returns for pre-season training early next month."
