A half-century by Pettey, who finished unbeaten, enabled Ryhope to overtake Marsden's formidable total of 125 for seven when the sides met in Division Three.

Haynes was another batsman in form in Bill Quay's seven wickets victory at home to Easington. Batting first the visitors made 96 which included 33 by Fenwick. He was outshone, however, by Haynes who ended undefeated on 59.

Silksworth struggled for runs when they met Hylton managing only 41 for eight as Archibald captured three wickets for six runs.

Hanaby with 35 not out top performed in Murton's total of 119 for six as Wilson took four wickets for 14 runs.

Responding Dawdon finished on 102 for four with Thompson undefeated with 35.

South Hetton made the biggest score of the night making 126 for six at home to Boldon CA. Runs down the order enabled South Hetton to make a good total while Boldon CA's Winter made four wickets for 33 runs. Despite Moore's 43 Boldon CA totalled 90 for six when their overs expired.

Seaham Park finished five wickets winners at Houghton, who batting first, posted 100 for six and Castle Eden just edged Peterlee by seven runs. Osborne was in good form with the ball for Peterlee claiming four for 25 runs when Castle Eden made 99 for eight from their 20 overs. Replying Peterlee finished with 92 for seven which included 35 not out by John Paul.

Roseberry Group North East Durham League

Phil O'Ware struck eight boundaries in an unbeaten 73 to lead Belford House to an eight wickets victory over Sunderland Hospitals who, batting first, were restricted to 162 for seven which included 31 by Bennett, 39 from Shaw and 35 from Surtees.

North Bitchburn had only five runs to spare at home to Hunwick whose 45 overs yielded 132 for seven with most of the runs coming from Gordon Dunn with 45 and Gordon Tinkler 25. Morris was in good form for Hunwick but after taking five for 35 he then top scored with 32 but Lee claimed six for 37 runs Hunwick were out for 127.

Plawsworth looked to have produced a good total when they reached 162 at home to Washington. Michael Thorpe (40) and Michael Fletcher (31) performed well while Washington's John Tither had figures of five for 23 and Paul Burrell three for 19. Although they lost eight wickets Washington won when John Tindal added 35 to 164 for eight.

Alvi struck a marvellous 126 and Maddison made 35 in Coxhoe's total of 225 at Belmont who were all out for 87 as Tiffany and Stephenson both took five wickets.

East Rainton romped to 273 for four when they hosted Simonside. Colin Henderson scored 115 and there were half centuries from Neil Matthews and Gordon Steel. Although Chris Yare was only two runs short of a century and both Neil Wastell (36) and David Connelly (30no) made useful scores, Simonside were always behind the clock when they finished with 195 for six.

In the Second Division Beamish were all out for 125 when Keel claimed five for 41. Visitors Kibblesworth won by four wickets thanks to Stoddart who opened the winnings and made a fine 65.

Hockday (66), Coverley (32) and Watson (38) led Burnhope to 207 all out and in response Coundon ended on 158 with useful contributions down the order. Hockday was in form taking seven wickets for 77 runs.

Washington won by ten runs at home to Tantobie. Washington finished with 157 for seven and despite English opening the Tantobie innings and scoring 30 and Greenside contributing 34, the visitors were 11 runs short of a winning margin.
