A Darlington diving group has been given a £5,000 cash grant from a millennium awards scheme.
The 3 Seas Diving Group has spent its grant on new kit for training, including air regulators, buoyancy jackets, compasses, navigational aids, first aid training and information technology equipment.
The club, a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club, is thought to be one of the largest of its kind in Darlington, and meets at its club house every Thursday, from about 7.30pm.
It holds weekly try-out sessions for anyone who wishes to find out what diving is about, and offers regular training for anyone interested in taking up the sport.
Members also dive regularly all year round, in both fresh and salt water.
As a club, it operates its own boats, together with members' boats and arranges regular diving holidays and excursions. It also holds regular social events.
The club is looking to expand and would welcome any diver, would-be diver and anyone wishing to become a social member.
