ENVIRONMENTAL experts are hoping to shed some light on the floods that hit the region.
Officers from the Environment Agency are to visit South Church and West Auckland, in County Durham, to explain how the damage occurred and talk about plans for flood defences.
The River Gaunless rose 10ft above normal levels after the downpour in early June, causing devastation to more than 400 homes and businesses, mostly in South Church and West Auckland.
Flood defence manager for Northumbria, Peter Kerr, said officers were keen to explain to people exactly what happened and answer questions.
"Hundreds of people were directly or indirectly affected by the devastation the floods caused.
"Effective flood warning and flood defence systems are designed on the basis of accurate information. We want to hear what residents have to say about their recent experiences."
The forums will be held between 6pm and 8.30pm at the Territorial Army Centre, St Andrew's Road, Bishop Auckland, on Monday, and St Helen Auckland Primary School, Manor Road, on Tuesday.
