YOUNGSTERS from Dormanstown Primary School could see themselves as the engineers of the future after a science event at Nature's World in Middlesbrough.
The 45 children took part in a variety of activities at the Science is Great event, which is aimed at raising children's interest in science.
The activities included designing boats from plastic bottles which were then raced on a model of the River Tees, building fairground rides from paper and balloon powered cars.
The event was sponsored by the British Association for the Advancement of Science, Teesside Chemical Initiative's Science Education Unit, Nature's World and Neighbourhood Engineers.
The Dormanstown trip was sponsored by BP Amoco Chemicals at Wilton who donated £350 and covered the costs of transportation. The company also gave the youngsters bags of goodies to thank them for their hard work.
Donald Austin, site manager at BP Amoco Chemicals at Wilton, said: "It is great to see young children taking part in science-based activities, as these could be the engineers of the future."
