Bedale High School had five competitors in the Hambleton and Richmond area team at the North Yorkshire County Athletics Championships at Ryedale Stadium, York.
And all established personal bests - Victoria Bainbridge, long jump, 4.13m; Johnnie Mitchell, high jump, 1.40m; Andrew Fort, triple jump, 12.04. For the first time the school had champions in Kimberley Bartram (Y10) who set a pb of 42.6secs in the 300m andRebecca Robinson (Y8) also set a pb of 5.11 in the junior girls 1500m. Both girls train every week with the Richmond and Zetland Harriers.
History was made in last week's school cricket match between Bedale High School and Thirsk School with a brother and sister opening the batting for Bedale.
Emma Shillito (Y7) is in the Yorkshire U-13 women's development squad and plays for Bedale Cricket Club U-13 as well as the school. She is a talented bowler who can also bat.
Brother Martin (Y8) is a regular for the Bedale U-13 team, the Hambleton and Richmond area team and the Noth Yorkshire County team.
He has also had an occasional game for Bedale men's team where his father is a regular player there.
Martin narrowly missed out on selection to the Yorkshire team.
This is the first time at Bedale that a brother and sister have represented the school and it may be many years before it happens again.
