FORMER Saltburn student Steven Ridley has successfully completed an initial phase of officer training at Britannia Royal Naval College to become an engineering (training management) officer in the Royal Navy.
Steven, 23, a former pupil of Huntcliffe Secondary School, worked as a joiner for Cleveland Site Safety after leaving university. He graduated from the Herriot Watt University, Edinburgh, with a degree in civil engineering in 1997.
The course at BRNC included two months at sea in the Type 22 frigate, HMS Cumberland.
Steven's parents, Tom and Claire, travelled to Dartmouth, Devon, to witness the passing out parade.
Sub Lt Ridley has now joined the Landing Platform ship, HMS Ocean for further fleet training.
