At the schools Inter-County Championships held at Clairville Stadium, Middlesbrough, four Shildon Junior athletes gained selection for the English Schools championships held at Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield next month.
There were excellent performances in difficult conditions from Gemma Brown in the Junior Girls 200m as she finished first in a time of 27.5. Also winning was Yasmine Meite who won the Inter-Girls 200m in 27.0. Victoria Finn, who won the Inter-Girls 300m in 41.2, and Ian Davey, who finished second in the 800m in 1.56.00, both booked their places for Sheffield.
At the Tyneside Track and Field League held at Gateshead Stadium Gemma Brown continued her good progress in the U-15 girls 200m in 27.3 along with Victoria Finn, U-17 girls 200m first in 27.1.

First home for the club in the Blaydon Race held was veteran Bob Davison in 197th position with a time of 34.55. First lady was Julie Ingram in 1481st position and a time of 47.00.

At the Hyrdro Polymers Newton Aycliffe 10K Mark Surtees, 17, had a fine run to finish first for the club 28th in 37.34, while Julie Ingram was first lady in 173rd position in 53.47.

At the Rainton 10K, K Langridge finished 29th in 37.26 and B Davison was 38th in 37.59.
At the U-17 North of England Track and Field Championships held at Robin Park Stadium, Wigan, Victoria Finn collected bronze in the 300m final. She finished second in the heats in 41.89 and recorded 41.38 in the final. Club mate Gemma Brown won her heat in the U-15 100m in 13.29 and fifth in the final with 13.09. Gemma also won her heat in the 200m 26.52 and was just squeezed out of the medals in the final finishing fourth in 26.37.
Richard Turner was sixth in the final of the U-17 boys 400m in 53.94 while Matthew Lomax achieved a personal best in the U15 boys 1500m final in 4.33.87.

Darlington Harriers
Darlington Harriers have been active on the roads around North Yorkshire with some considerable success.
At the Ripon Midsummer 10km Road Race Darlington Harriers had a double first, with Nigel Orr winning the mens' race in 35.11. His time would have been quicker had he not been misdirected. Alison Raw was the first female home in 38.03.
Andrew Smith was seventh in the 2km fun run in a time of 8.49.

At the Rainton 10km race the Harriers had more success with Nigel Orr winning in a time of 33.12. Alison Raw was second female in a time of 37.33. Nigel Martin Grainger was fifth in 34.44 and Paul Kelly, 15th, 35.30 won the men's team prize.
Andrew Smith was third in the two-mile fun run in a time of 15.02.

Elswick Harriers
after finishing fourth in a BMC 1500m race in Manchester in a personal best of 3.48.8, David Anderson, moved on to Grantham at the North of England Senior Track and Field Championships.
He easily won his 1500m heat in a time of four minutes one second and then took the gold medal in the 1500m final in 3.58.18. David, coached by Colin Bolton, has improved dramatically this year, and along with team mates Steve Horn and Alan Johnson is providing a formidable middle distance squad.
Jacqui Elliott won the Northern Ladies Heptathlon Championships at Jarrow with a total of 3560 points.
The club organised the Start Fitness Newburn River Run from Newburn Leisure Centre with a total of 222 athletes completing the 10.5k mainly off-road course. Daniel Flint of Gateshead Harriers won the event in a time of 32.46 with Ieuan Ellis of Elswick in third spot in 34.05.
Mark McNally was first O/50 in 37.35, Harry Matthews third O/50 in 38.30. For the ladies, Kim Davison was third in 42.32, with Yvonne Swinhoe fourth in 44.35.

Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers
Three Burn Road runners carried out a third raid into Yorkshire last weekend and came away with victories in the Black Sheep race series.
Mark Armstrong, Mike Frostick and Graham Stevens were the committed trio involved in these events in and around Yorkshire.
Rainton was the venue for a 10k where Mark, who is lying second overall, ran well again for fifth place in 34.04. Next home super vet O/50 Mike Frostick won again in a time of 36.06 (18th). Mike is leading his category in fine style and hopes his form will see him take the top title. Mike won a sweatshirt from Rent-a-Tent but last time he won a date with Carol Vorderman so he is now waiting in anticipation for his next outing.
Another good performance came from Graham Stevens (V1), who set a personal best in a time of 36.54 (27th). Graham is training regularly with Mike and is improving with each race.
Hartlepool Power Station was the setting for a 10k multi-terrain race over dunes, beaches and fields, which saw veteran athlete Dave Edwards, now down to his race weight, storm home to victory in a time of 37.27
