Marske won without losing a wicket when they hosted Guisborough who managed 62 for nine with more than half the runs coming from Normanton, whose 33 included no fewer than six boundaries. Phil Walker bowled a good end in the Marske attack, his four overs yielding three for only 13 runs and he received good support from James Riley, who finished with two for seven from four overs.

Riley also hit top form with the bat and he recorded six fours in an unbeaten 34. Philip Walker finished on 19 not out as Marske enjoyed the easiest of victories.

After Middlesbrough had totalled 145 without loss, Saltburn replied with 110 for four while Norton defeated Stockton by five wickets.

When they made first use of the wicket, the home side were pegged to 76 for five and responding Norton finished with 77 for five despite Ian O'Neill claiming a couple of wickets for Stockton.

Darlington reached 92 for the loss of seven wickets at home to Hartlepool. Danny Page had a couple of boundaries in a top scoring 28 and for Pool, Richardson returned two for 19 and Bagnam had two for 18, the pair both bowling four overs.

In reply, Hartlepool could only manage 58 for seven with Ruddick their top scorer with 17 not out. James Hogg was the most productive of the Darlington bowlers with three for ten from four overs.

Durham Senior League

Chester-le-Street are still doing well in Division Three and carried on their good form when they overtook Horden's modest total of 71 for nine with eight wickets in tact.

Paul Berryman, the man of the match, had the remarkable figures of five wickets for five runs.

The Cestrians, in second place, had Berryman (20) and John Turnbull (24) in form with the bat.

Philadelphia, the leaders, maintained their strong challenge for honours when they overtook Burnmoor's 102 for six with five wickets left.

Charlie Plummer top scored with 53 in Burnmoor's total and although Ben Embleton had three for 25, Philadelphia edged home in a close finish.

Sunderland and South Shields produced a high scoring and entertaining game which Shields won by eight runs.

Batting first, Shields ended with the formidable total of 144 for four which included 77 not out by Binns and 38 not out from Wilson.

Undeterred, Sunderland chased victory and were 136 for eight when their allotted overs expired. Fenwick contributed 66 and Harrison 51 while for South Shields Leadley claimed five of the eight wickets to go down for 32 runs.

An unbeaten 39 by Ian Jones featured in Boldon's three wickets win at home to Seaham Harbour whose 93 for five included 46 not out by Osmand while Eppleton romped to a ten wickets win at Whitburn.

When they made first use of the wicket the village side made a respectable 112 for four which included an unbeaten 63 by Graeme Anderson. Peter Dawson, who formerly starred with Philadelphia before returning to his home club, with 52 not out and former first team player Philip Wright (47no), earned Eppleton their comprehensive success.

Durham City totalled 102 for seven as they defeated Gateshead Fell by 15 runs.

Stephen Maddox top scored with 25 for Durham City and the pick of the Fell attack was Andrew Porter whose three wickets cost 30 runs.

Mel Chivers, who is a leading wicket taker for Plawsworth in the Roseberry Group North East Durham League, plays for Durham City in midweek and he took five wickets for 24 runs.
