Millennium Captains Weekend

The weekend was played in glorious weather with a course to match. The weekend started with Margaret Hill, the Lady Captain's day on Friday, followed by Saturday morning's shotgun start, mixed greensome and the juniors in the afternoon. Captain, Gordon Bainbridge's day was on Sunday which featured a hole in one on the ninth by Larry Burnham who provided the traditional whiskey to mark his achievement.

The main event of the Lady Captain's Day was a Stableford Competition which was played off 7/8th handicap.

Three Counties Northumberland League

Stocksfield maintained their position at the top of Jo Loring Premier Division with a four wickets win at Corbridge.

Batting first Corbridge ended with 151 as Simon Wraith captured three for 26 and Steve Christer took three for 22.

Replying, Stocksfield secured 19 points when Lee Anderson led them to victory with a half century.

Newcastle City stay second after their match with Stobswood was abandoned due to bad light. Ian Watson (91), Alex Herbert (30) and Jason Padman (46) enabled Stobswood to total 230 for nine and Newcastle City were on 167 for four when the match was called off. Ravi Sharma (41no) and Ahmed (47) were top scorers for Newcastle City.

Cowgate Sports Club went down by 11 runs on their visit to Whitley Bay for whom Cunningham top scored with 34 in a total of 121 for eight.

Cowgate were then dismissed for 110 with Pearson taking four for 24 and Simpson four for 40.

Bob Tulip scored 79 of Kirkley's 155 before Belsay went on to win by ten wickets when Nick Maguire and Paul Howie both scored 66 not out.

Bomarsund recorded their first win defeating Bedlington by eight runs. Batting first Bomarsund were indebted to Colin Thornton (36) and John Haig Jnr (40) for their total of 108 while the Campbell brothers Ian and Colin shared seven wickets. When they went into bat Bedlington were all out for 100 as Turnbull took four for 28 and Willis four for 22.

Bates Cottages have a six points lead in Division A.

They recorded a six wickets victory on their visit to West Wylam when Walton took four for 22 after Thurlbeck had top scored with 45.

Bob Zanetti hit one six and three boundaries in 46 out of Monkseaton's 91 all out. Chopwell won in 34.5 overs by five wickets when Alan Nichols scored 26.

Half-centuries by Slater and Hudspith enabled New Hartley to total 190 for six on their visit to Morpeth who were reduced to 79 mainly by the bowling of Stokes with six for ten.

A half-century by Norman Smith featured in Clara Vale's seven wickets win at home to DSS while Northern Electric had the better of Northern Social when they reached 246 for six with half centuries from Chapman and Horner
