A FESTIVAL week of music and entertainment will provide a fitting build-up to a town's celebration.
North Yorkshire Millennium Day is one of Northallerton's contributions to the year 2000 celebrations.
The day will include everything from history exhibitions to battle re-enactments.
The North Yorkshire Millennium Festival Week starts with the Allerton Players' presentation of The Cantebury Tales, at the town hall, at 7.30pm on Saturday.
Other entertainment includes a Medieval night, Richmond Theatre's production of Cartimandua, an Old Music Hall night by Northallerton Operatic and Variety Companies, and a concert featuring the town's Male and Ladies' Voice Choir and Bullamoor School.
A folk festival, running from Friday to Saturday, July 15, adds to the celebrations. It will also run on a historic theme and has been organised by Tom Hughes, from Darlington Folk Club.
Tickets for the millenium and folk festivals are available at various outlets in the town and proceeds will go towards the runing costs of the history day.
