MORE than 2,000 fish were rescued from a North-East reservoir in a pre-planned operation yesterday.

A team of fisheries officers from the Environment Agency caught the fish because the Broken Scar reservoir is being drained by Northumbrian Water for essential maintenance.

Fish, including chub, dace and roach, had to be caught using nets and electro-fishing equipment, which temporarily stuns fish so they float to the surface but are unharmed
