CUBS and Scouts in County Durham are preparing for a river ducking - but none of them will get wet.
The youngsters will release about 1,500 plastic ducks in the River Derwent, at Allensford, on Friday, for a sponsored race.
The 1st Leadgate Scouts hope to raise up to £1,000 from the event, to buy camping gear and ensure every child can go on their organised trips.
Scout leader Adrian Hughes said that the group - which is one of the few in the country to have a penant for war service - was only revived five years ago.
As well as the duck race, there will be activities for all the family, including a giant bouncy castle, stalls and a barbecue.
There will be ten winners in the race, which begins at 3pm. Entry costs £1. To enter, or for information about the Scout group, contact Mr Hughes on (01207) 580377.
