THE last piece of an industrial jigsaw has fitted into place at a North-East business park.

Electrical goods distributor Newey & Eyre has taken a 10,400 sq ft unit at Metro Riverside Park., on Tyneside.

Part of Dutch group Hagermeyer, Birmingham-based Newey & Eyre is £650m a year turnover business, employing 3,500 people nationally, with several branches in the North-East.

The Metro Riverside Park location will offer warehousing, a trade centre and telesales. Newey & Eyre regional director Michael Hoppins said: "Metro Riverside Park offers easy access to the road network, particularly the A1.

"We had been searching for suitable premises for some time and when the unit became available we knew it was ideal for our purposes. The quality of site was important factor, not least to meet our need to keep maintenance costs to a minimum."

DTZ Debenham Tie Leung acted on behalf of the developer, JF Miller Properties.

Metro Riverside Park currently comprises four office buildings and four industrial and warehouse units in an 11-acre landscaped setting close to the MetroCentre.

It is home to companies such as Boots, Chartered Trust, Office Data Supplies, Compressor Products International, Abbey Life and Comet.

DTZ director Allan Sandison said: "Metro Riverside Park has proved to be a major success, and DTZ is delighted to have played a key role from the outset of this pioneering business park."

A few years ago the site was a brownfield site formerly occupied by a steel rolling mill.

Building on the park's success so far, DTZ has now supplied a 14-acre block of land for further business development.

It is hoped that 200,000 sq ft of high quality office space will be available before the end of 2001.
