FOUR major employers have joined forces in a bid to reduce the volume of traffic in North Yorkshire's county town.
The county council is working with Hambleton District Council, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Friarage Hospital to promote a car sharing scheme for people who work in Northallerton.
Under the new partnership, 3,500 staff of the four organisations will be able to see a database of people who are offering or looking for lifts to and from work.
They can then arrange to car share in an effort to reduce traffic. The database will be maintained by the county council.
Chief executive Jeremy Walker said: "We are very pleased to work with other major employers in Northallerton to help protect the environment by reducing the volume of traffic.
