SENIOR citizens will be alarmed by young people in their homes this weekend.
However, the volunteers from Tanfield Comprehensive, near Stanley, will be there to fit anti-burglar devices.
Two bungalows in nearby Tantobie will be kitted out by pupils taking part in a project designed to bridge the generation gap.
They will be fitting alarms which use infra-red to detect movement in the room.
The alarms are designed to stop burglars creeping into one part of the premises undetected while the occupant is elsewhere.
The school has bought two dozen alarms and is working with Durham Constabulary to identify the households which would get most benefit.
If the scheme is successful, it will be extended.
Tanfield Comprehensive is one of nine in the country presently involved in the scheme
