TELEVISION agony aunt Denise Robertson was the guest personality yesterday at celebrations to mark the achievements of South Bank Women's Centre.
Two years ago, the centre, which specialises in helping women with educational and training opportunities, raised £132,000 to refurbish its base in Upper Albion Street, Middlesbrough.
One year after the building work, the refurbishment and extension programme means that the charity now has four training areas, a computer suite, drop-in space, large creche, a kitchen and office space.
Yesterday, Ms Robertson met staff and women who use the centre and released balloons to celebrate the charity's work.
Centre manager Sue Anderson said: "Now a whole variety of activities take place at the centre for the women of South Bank and surrounding areas.
"Currently, 385 women are on accredited courses and 102 children are on our creche register.
"The motto for South Bank's Single Regenaration Budget programme is 'from hope to reality'.
"As the South Bank Women's Centre is a project within the SRB programme, we believe it is living proof that dreams really do come true."
