A GROUP of fun-loving pensioners are getting set to take a trip down memory lane this weekend.
More than 160 elderly people will take a bus through Teesdale before enjoying a picnic at Westfield Farm, in Mickleton.
The group of pensioners will stop off at Raby Castle and Holwick Lodge before heading off to the farm for the picnic, which will be followed by a look round some specially designed displays featuring clothes and uniforms from the 30s, 40s and 50s, as well as some musical entertainment, including the group's very own Vera Lynn.
The trip has been organised by the Teesdale Day Clubs, which decided to hold the event after asking members what they would like to do as a treat for the millennium.
Funding was granted by the Awards for All scheme, and the trip, which will take place on Saturday, will also take in Winston, Staindrop, Stainton Grove, Mickleton and Middleton-in-Teesdale.
A display of vintage cars and buses, dating from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s will also be on display after the picnic.
Vice-chairman of the Teesdale Day Clubs, Sandra Moorhouse, said the members were really looking forward to the trip.
"This is what they all said they would like to do and now they can't wait for the weekend, which should be real treat for everyone involved.
"We want the day to bring back some memories of their younger days in Teesdale and it would be great for them to get chatting together.
"In fact they are all pretty spritely for their age and even the oldest member, a 94-year-old, has been jumping about with excitement - they will probably put us young ones to shame."
