CONSUMER demand for Yorkshire Lamb, a food produced by more than 200 farmers, is in danger of exceeding supply.
The brand went on sale last month after its official launch earlier in the year, but the producers' club is urging more sheep farmers to join the initiative.
Jeremy Eaton, of the Yorkshire Lamb Producers' Club, said: "Following the successful launch of the Yorkshire Lamb brand earlier this year, the number of farmers involved in the initiative has quadrupled.
"We have now reached a critical mass of farmers who together, through the Yorkshire Lamb Producers' Club, are now offering suppliers and consumers quality assured lamb with the added security of carrying the Yorkshire Lamb brand."
But Mr Eaton said, with consumer demand growing, more farmers with continental cross and Suffolk cross lambs were needed to sign up to the scheme.
He said: "Members will not only benefit from the new markets for lamb we are opening up, but as a co-operative, the club has substantial collective buying clout that will enable us to negotiate special prices on feeds and machinery for members."
