HEADTEACHER of Billingham Campus, John Finel is to retire in August after 23 years at the school.
Mr Finel was first appointed to Brunner School in 1977, and then became the headteacher of Billingham Campus, after amalgamation in 1984. He was always concerned with establishing and promoting a broad and balanced curriculum and was a strong defender of creative subjects.
One of his most satisfying achievements was to bring into mainstream schools the Special Needs Support base. His work for Eastern Ravens and adult literacy has always been appreciated too.
Mr Finel, a keen photographer counts the Lake District and Switzerland as his favourite destinations.
All staff and pupils, past and present, would like to wish him all the best for the future, and through his philosophy and legacy the school can look forward to the future with real promise.
