THIS year's Durham County Show promises to be one of the most action-packed yet.
With a new venue for the new millennium and a host of weird and wonderful attractions, the 159th annual show is gearing up for a bumper turnout.
Thousands of people from across the region are expected to descend on the Northern area playing fields in Washington this weekend.
Earlier this year the show lost its usual site at Lambton Park in Burnmoor, where it has been held for the past 50 years.
But Sunderland City Council came to the rescue in February by offering the Washington venue and show organiser Christine Duke reckons the change could be a blessing.
She said: "We anticipate this year's show will be bigger and better than ever before because we are closer to a big town and should attract more people, including first time visitors."
With an estimated 25,000 visitors pouring through the gates, organisers have ensured there's something for everyone.
As well as the usual cattle, horse and sheep categories, there will also be a feast of acts and attractions. Entertainment will include Clown Bo and his Amazing Car, The Man with the Bionic Eyes, and Mr Mystery.
Sunday will also see the North's largest one-day dog show.
Gates open from 9am to 5pm on both days and admission is £6 for adults and £2 for children and OAPs. Car parking is free.
