THE British National Party has defended the use of a convicted hooligan's home to peddle race-hate literature.
The Northern Echo revealed yesterday that Robert Bowman's home, in Darlington, is being used as base by the BNP.
Leaflets are being distributed in Darlington asking people to contact a PO Box controlled from the home of Mr Bowman, who used to be known as Robert Bruce Baines, in Firth Moor.
An investigation by The Northern Echo uncovered the fact that Bowman has a history of convictions for football-related violence.
However, Darlington-based BNP member Paul Dargue yesterday defended the use of Mr Bowman's home. He said: "We are a political party and should be allowed to distribute leaflets like anybody else."
