IN recent years the North-East has welcomed street cafes, cappuccinos and even foreign footballers, but it is about to become home to that most continental of features - the bendy bus.
A new generation of £200,000 European-style superbuses are to make their debut on the streets of Tyneside in the next few weeks.
Designed to carry up to 150 passengers, the Go North-East vehicles will look familiar to anyone who's visited a major European city, or even Glasgow, Sheffield, Manchester or Edinburgh in recent years.
About 18-metres long with a concertina-style break in the middle, the single-decker buses of the future will provide the latest in convenient, modern public transport.
They will soon be a common site on the streets of Tyneside and Wearside if they pass their road trials with flying colours.
If successful, Go North East may buy six super-buses for their multi-million pound Centrelink project which operates between Gateshead town centre and the MetroCentre.
