SAFEWAY in Darlington is to offer free car seat safety checks to parents shopping at the store.
The store is one of 14 chosen across the country to host a safety roadshow in association with Mother and Baby magazine and car seat manufacturer Britax.
Road safety officers will be on hand between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday in the supermarket car park.
Sarah Baxter, spokeswoman for Safeway, said: "Offering free car seat safety checks in our Darlington store car park is an incredibly easy, convenient and much needed initiative, which will give local parents peace of mind and could save lives."
According to the RAC 90 per cent of car injuries and deaths involving youngsters could be avoided if car seat restraints were fitted and used properly.
Customers at Safeway will be able to fill in a questionnaire on the day, which will then go into a draw for a £60 Britax Super Cruiser car safety seat
