RESIDENTS on a troubled Durham estate undergoing a major revamp are looking forward to a day of fun this weekend.
Sherburn Road, which is getting a multi-million pound facelift, is holding its annual fun day in the grounds of the Laurel Avenue Community Centre on Saturday between 11am and 3pm.
The Gilesgate-based Making Music Project will be performing a variety of songs and dances from the Fifties to the present and wearing the costume of each era.
The group, which includes able-bodied and disabled youngsters, is run by Durham County Council's Community Education Service, and has won over audiences throughout the area with the quality of its performances.
There will also be a mini sports day, five-a-side soccer match between police and residents, children's rides, performance by a local drama group, fancy dress competition, table top stalls, fortune teller and side shows.
