A PAINTING by a Spennymoor schoolboy is featured in a calendar produced by Northumbria in Bloom.
Jonathan Kitching, aged 11, from Whitworth School, won first prize for the special schools up to 12 years of age category in the Northumbria in Bloom children's painting competition, sponsored by Greggs of Gosforth in association with the Tidy Britain group.
Jonathan received vouchers together with a certificate and a Greggs gingerbread man as his prize and his school won the Greggs Trophy.
The calandar for the year 2001, priced at £3, is available from various outlets including the Gateshead Flower Show on July 29 and 30 and the Tidy Britain Group.
The Spennymoor entries will be on display in the town hall.
Pictured at the prize-giving ceremony attended by more than 100 finalists, are from left to right: Graham Randell, managing director of Greggs; Coun J R Ferguson, deputy mayor of Spennymoor; Steve Wood, and Ian Whyte, the England and Newcastle Eagles basketball player, who presented the awards.
