Durham City Harriers
Ithe veterans North-East track and field championship held at the Monkton Stadium, Jarrow, members of the Durham City Harriers had an excellent day. Brenda Elliott scored a treble of victories in her new age group of O50 as she won the 100m in 14.70, the 200m in 30.10 and 400m in 66.00. The latter two being championship records.
Michael O'Donovan just missed out in a photo finish for the 100m and despite having the time of 12.80, the same time as the winer, he was adjudged to have finished second. He made up for this by winning the 200m in 26.30 in the M45 category.
Caroline Ratcliffe made her debut in the championships with a time of 5.01 while Bryan Mackay retained his 1500m O55 title.
Len Watson now in his 35th year has reluctantly retired from competition after a great athletic career in track and field where he still holds age records in the 100m, 200m, 400m, discus and his favourite event, the long jump. He bowed out with victories in the 200m in 22.70 and 200m in 49.00.
In the Tyneside 10km road race veteran Elwyn Baldwin (M50) had a fine run to finish 61st in 37.08 with Graeme Armstrong 153rd in 41.27, Graham Richardson 195th in 42.54 and Gordon Bradley 221st in 44.03.

FOOTBALL
The FA Cup sponsors AXA have come to the aid of Darlington team AXA Insurance by kitting out the whole team in a brand new strip.
The team wore the kit for the first time earlier this month against Kneeton Park in a friendly.
The kit donation is part of a nationwide programme run by AXA to benefit clubs at the grassroots level of football. In all, football kit worth over £ million will be distributed by AXA local representatives to in excess of a thousand worthy clubs across the country.
Club manager Neil Smith received the kit from AXA's Greg Rixon.
Smith said: "Although we play as AXA, we are not an official AXA team and we are self funded.
"The kit has come at a great time for us and saved us a lot of money. If they go out looking a million dollars, hopefully they will play like a million dollars."
AXA's four-year deal with the FA includes sponsorship of the FA Cup, and they also sponsor the FA Women's Premier League, the Women's Premier League Cup and the Women's FA Cup.
