CYCLISTS and bikers may have grabbed a spot of television fame yesterday when they took part in a road safety event.
Ridewell 2000 was held at Preston Park, Eaglescliffe, Teesside, to raise awareness of all two-wheeled road users to the dangers they may encounter on the roads.
A number of activities took place during the day, including BMX stunt displays, children's cycling competency tests, observed rides and crash reconstructions.
The event was hosted by Cleveland Police and Stockton Borough Council's road safety team, and was filmed by ITV's Police Camera Action programme.
Inspector Mike Bennett, head of Cleveland's road policing unit, said: "I am concerned at the number of motor cyclists and pedal cyclists who are killed and injured each year, many of which are the innocent victims of collisions.
"My officers, supported by other police forces and agencies, were available to assess and improve people's riding skills, and to offer help and advice on all aspects of road safety."
