PRIMARY school pupils have been letting their hard work take the strain as they enjoy the last couple of days left of the summer term.
Youngsters from year six at St John the Baptist Primary School, Ragworth, Stockton have been taking part in a science and technology project linking neighbourhood engineers with local primary schools, and organised as part of the Nuffield Primary Science Space Project.
As their project the children studied forces affecting bridges. The culmination of the project involved four teams each designing and constructing large scale bridges with a span of four metres that allowed them to support their weight and cross a make-believe river.
Joss Thompson, science leader at the school said: "The children have really enjoyed the project. It has been great and the youngsters have developed some great team building skills."
