NORTHUMBRIAN Water has announced details of the contractors chosen to work on the biggest environmental improvement programme the region has ever seen.
The contractors will work over the next five years to deliver the company's £730m worth of investment projects.
The projects include the construction of 17 new and extended sewage treatment works stretching along the North-East coast from Haggerston, Northumberland in the North, down to Skinningrove, East Cleveland.
The smallest works is at Bamburgh, Northumberland serving the equivalent of 50 people, and the largest is at Bran Sands on the south bank of the Tees covering around 1.75 million.
The contractors chosen have been separated into lists covering different aspects of the company's investment programme. The biggest list is for civil engineering works with 12 contractors and four reserves.
Capital investment manager for Northumbrian Water, Chris Watson, said: "Apart from the major new coastal sewage treatment works, the programme is made up of a large number of smaller schemes."
