A woman who died after suffering 95 per cent burns in a gas explosion has been named.
Norma Anne Sinclair, 53, died in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Newcastle, on Monday night, after being transferred from North Tees General Hospital under police escort.
She was the victim of an explosion at her home, in Wheatley Walk, Stockton, in the early hours of Monday.
The blast was caused by vandals who had ripped gas meters off walls in the area.
Ms Sinclair was described by neighbours as "somebody who always had the time of day for you", but kept herself to herself.
Police said her brother and elderly mother were too upset to speak to the media last night.
Police have said that her death is being treated as suspicious and an incident room has been set up.
Anyone with any information about the explosion is asked to contact (01642) 302387.
