A CHARITY worker is planning to paint the town red - and green, blue, cream, yellow and white.
Rod Jones has been donated 3,000 tins of paint of every hue, texture and finish to bring a little colour into the lives of sick children in impoverished Romania, which he regularly visits with truck loads of aid.
The 22 tons of paint are sufficient to facelift five orphanages and a hospital in the Romanian town of Iasi.
Rod, who lives in Middlesbrough, has one immediate problem - finding decorators to put the paint on the walls.
He has lined up accommodation in Iasi and transport to and from the country. Now he wants to recruit a skilled team of about ten.
"We have people who will go around asking local DIY stores for the odd tin of paint.
"All we ever want is a few tins of paint, but this gift is unbelievable,'' said Rod.
"Now we need people with painting and decorating skills.''
Rod also wants to hear from anyone with artistic skills to paint nursery characters on the freshly painted walls.
If anyone can help with the painting or sponsorship they should contact Rod on (01642) 359050 during the day and (01642) 790810 in the evenings.
