VILLAGERS in Ebchester, near Consett, celebrated more than 2,000 years of history last weekend.
Organisers of the special Millennium events at the village, which dates back to Roman times, concentrated on its history.
Members of the Ebchester Community Association managed to raise more than £2,000, mainly from Derwentside District Council and the Millennium Festival Awards for the big day.
Events included the display of the innovative big quilt designed by local artists that depicts an embroidered aerial view of the North-East and a village barbecue and dance.
There was also a craft fair and the village Millennium Bowl, an exhibition of old photographs, an open air church service for the whole village and a competition to design a village logo
